The Process

what to expect

I approach therapy with empathy, warmth and genuineness while working to maintain a balance between being supportive and challenging. I believe that therapy can offer a uniquely authentic, intimate, and non-judgmental space that fosters self-acceptance and self-understanding.

My style is active, collaborative and inclusive, and I incorporate values of resilience, empowerment, and compassionate curiosity. Typically the first few sessions involve gathering information about what you’re struggling with, who you are as a human, and past experiences in order to take a holistic approach. In our time together, we'll look at what is (and is not) working in your life and learn healthy, authentic ways of moving through the world, while building your capacity for feeling your feelings, grounding, and connecting with internal sources of relief.

My unique approach to therapy is trauma-focused, attachment-oriented, and integrates the body/mind connection. My most utilized therapeutic techniques include Somatic Experiential Therapy (SomEx), EMDR, IFS, and mindfulness.

Therapeutic Modalities

  • Somatic Experiential Therapy (SomEx) focuses on how the body responds to and holds onto trauma. Through compassionate curiosity and attunement, we can tap into the wisdom of our bodies, release stored tension and trauma-related sensations, and cultivate a sense of safety and well-being.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) uses bilateral stimulation like eye movements, taps, or sounds to help process traumatic memories. EMDR can aid in lessening the intensity of the memory, shifting negative core beliefs, and integrating traumatic experiences allowing for the creation of new, healthier neural connections.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) views the mind as a combination of varying sub-personalities or "parts" of ourselves. We may have parts that hold onto wounded emotions and parts that try to control and protect us from pain. Parts may often engage in what once were protective behaviors that now cause issues (i.e. fighting, numbing, avoiding conflict). IFS focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring mental balance and harmony by changing the dynamics that create conflict among parts and our authentic self.

  • Trauma can impact us in profoundly difficult ways. Trauma can disconnect us from others, the world, our bodies, our spiritual beliefs, and ourselves. A trauma-focused approach allows us to further explore and understand this impact and heal from past traumas by addressing the emotional, mental, physical, and relational manifestations in our lives.
